A step-by-step guide explaining how to vote on a referendum
What is a referendum?
A referendum is a request to make a change on the network. The change can be either:
a request to change storage (such as the number of tokens held by an account)
a request to change how the blockchain is configured (such as increasing the maximum number of validators)
The community votes in favour or against the referendum. If the referendum is successful, the change will take place after an allotted period (known as the enactment delay).

Optionally, before pressing 'aye' or 'nay', you can increase the weight of your vote by locking your tokens, how to do this is explained at the end of this article.

Increasing your voting power
You can multiply the power of your vote by locking up your tokens for extended periods of time.
Here is the calculation
votes = tokens * conviction_multiplier
The conviction multiplier increases the vote multiplier by one every time the number of lock periods double.
